ACE Academy Students Receive Congratulations from Aerospace Committee |
|
|
On Saturday, members of The Chamber’s Aerospace Committee attended a summer youth program graduation ceremony for local teens who participated in the Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy. More than 20 kids, ranging in age from 14-18, attended the week-long program geared toward introducing them to exciting careers in the Aviation industry. The program is run by Delta Airlines Captain Calvin Allen and Senior Controller
at San Antonio International Airport Tony Bass.
Several Chamber members from the local aerospace industry provided support to this year’s camp by underwriting the cost t-shirts and meals each day for the children, by serving as guests speakers and by opening their facilities for tours. The committee also helped spread the word about the camp to parents, local schools and various business organizations. Highlights of the ACE Academy included tours of Brooks School of Aerospace
Medicine, a visit to St. Philip’s College School of Aviation Maintenance and a graduation Fly Day ride in a bi-plane at Stinson Airport. CLICK HERE to view video footage of Saturday’s Fly Day events.
“The ACE Academy is the type of program that falls directly in line with The Chamber's efforts to promote life-long learning and encourage local businesses to give students a look into professional work environments,” said Chamber President & CEO Richard Perez. “This is just one example of the many creative things that companies are doing to grow the next generation of workers in this city.”
Chamber members such as St. Philip's College, Boeing, Southwest Research Institute, Embry-Riddle, Valero Aviation, Port San Antonio, Flight Safety and Wright Flyers were among the sponsors and/or active participants in the
program.

Members of The Chamber's Aerospace Committee were active participants and supporters of this year's Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy, held July 13-18. Wright Flyers provided two instructors and two airplanes on Saturday to take the students flying.
