The Health Services sector encompasses a wide range of health care professionals and organizations providing direct service to patients. Within that sector, five major provider categories were identified.



Physicians and Hospitals

The two largest provider groups, physicians and hospitals, have consistently made a substantial contribution to the San Antonio economy. The figures below track the impact of these two groups since 1998. Over the four years shown, hospitals’ impact has grown slowly but steadily. Physicians’ impact has grown 20% from 1998 to 2001.
