Employees of health care providers, both civilian and military, received $2.313 billion in wages. Workers in related industries were paid another $1.045 billion. It is important to note that these figures reflect only direct wage payments. Total compensation, including benefits, would be significantly higher.

The average annual wage of San Antonio workers in 2001 was $30,652. Persons employed in the healthcare and bioscience sector averaged $34,352.

Annual wages for health services providers were $33,358 and those employees in related industries averaged $36,248.
