Information Technology Committee
The IT committee is responsible for leading the implementation of San Antonio Area Cyber Action Plan to further establish and promote cyber education, workforce development, cyber research and development, and collaborations among local cyber government, business and academic entities. The committee also works to improve the local IT industry by working to find additional funding from the state and federal government for programs at local colleges and universities, and works to inform the community of the
growth and vitality of the local IT industry.

The Information Technology Industry has a significant presence in the San Antonio economy. The industry’s economic impact in 2008 was $8 billion.

The industry paid $882 million in wages and salaries to 15,648 employees in 2008.
The average wage in the Information Technology industry was substantially higher than the San Antonio average.

Information technology’s economic impact extends far beyond the companies whose primary business is in IT. A Chamber survey of San Antonio’s largest employers found that approximately 4,800 IT professionals are employed at just 20 large non-IT enterprises.
