DAY 02-05
The group will fly directly into Tokyo, the current capital of Japan, where they will enjoy three days and nights of historic site tours and cultural experiences while staying at a truly state-of-the-art hotel. The travelers will visit the Imperial Palace Plaza, home to Emperor Heisei and other members of the Japanese Royal Family. Built on the site of an old castle, the Plaza is now a large park-like area with several buildings, including the private residences of the imperial family, an archive, a museum and administrative offices.

After taking in some of Japan’s rich imperial history, the group will tour Odaiba, a popular shopping and entertainment district on a man-made island in Tokyo Bay. Originally built as forts to protect the city from possible sea attacks, the islands have been transformed into a futuristic residential and business district with plenty of modern leisure options.

Travelers will take in the vast history of the capital city at the Tokyo Historical Museum and enjoy the beauty of Kabuki, a classical Japanese dance-drama, at a traditional Kabuki workshop.

DAY 05-06
Next, visitors will travel to picturesque Hakone, part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, to observe the volcanic activity in that region, followed by a scenic lake cruise. The area is famous for its hot springs, natural beauty and stunning views of nearby Mt. Fuji.

DAY 06-08
To get to Kyoto, travelers will experience the speed and convenience of a bullet train, with maximum speeds of 150-200 mph. Kyoto was the imperial capital of Japan for more than one thousand years and is sometimes referred to as the “City of Ten Thousand Shrines” because of the numerous temples there. Travelers will tour shrines and visit the famous Geisha district, which is home to many shops, restaurants and teahouses.

DAY 08
On their last full day in Japan, visitors will explore the historic monuments of ancient Nara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nara is home to Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines and excavated remains of the great Imperial Palace from when it was Japan’s capital in the 8th century, a period of profound political and cultural change in the country.

DAY 08-09
The group will end their journey in Osaka, one of the world’s largest cities, where they will get to explore the famous Osaka Castle, which played a major role in the country’s unification in the sixteenth century. Much like the rest of the trip, the visit to Osaka will combine the old with the new. After touring the historic castle, trip participants will have the opportunity to walk the Kuromon Market the following day. Kuromon-Ichiba is a street market with 170 stalls offering fish, fruit, vegetables and other traditional Japanese fare. It opened in the early 20th century and is often called “Osaka’s Kitchen” because many local chefs make daily trips for fresh ingredients.
