Your Chamber was proud to host the Lord Mayor of Darmstadt, Germany, Jochen Partsch, during his recent visit to San Antonio, where he also signed a Friendship Agreement with the City.  Darmstadt, “City of Science”, located 20 kilometers from the Frankfurt airport, one of Europe’s busiest airports, is a cyber, aerospace, and healthcare and bioscience hub in Germany, making for a natural match.

The Darmstadt group began their historic day on Friday with breakfast at the Chamber followed by a signing ceremony between the two mayors and lunch at the Plaza Club.  The Chamber meeting focused on potential opportunities to interact in the Cybersecurity, Aerospace and Healthcare and Bioscience sectors.

The idea for this visit started almost a year ago when Chamber President Richard Perez joined Mayor ivy Taylor, County Judge Nelson Wolff and a delegation from San Antonio as they visited Darmstadt and delivered a letter of intent to establish ties.  The San Antonio delegation was in Germany for the designation by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization of the San Antonio missions as a World Heritage Site, the first in the state of Texas.

The “Sister Cities International” initiative, created by President Eisenhower after World War II, aims to develop cultural, economic and technical exchanges between US cities and states with other global communities.
