Members of the Chamber team attended a welcome reception for Japanese Consul General Tetsuro Amano on Tuesday August 9.  The reception for the honorable Tetsuro Amano was hosted by Major Ivy Taylor, the City of San Antonio, the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation and the Japan-America Society of San Antonio. Musical Bridges Around the World provided additional support for the event.

In the wake of the tragic earthquakes that struck our sister city of Kumamoto, Japan in mid-April, the Chamber and other local organizations joined forces to raise funds for recovery efforts. To date, more than $80,000 have been donated to the city of Kumamoto. Fundraising continues with the goal of supporting the reconstruction and repair of Kumamoto Castle.

Consul Amano’s welcome reception also served as a chance for the Japanese government to formally acknowledge the ongoing support of San Antonio’s corporate and community organizations for Kumamoto’s recovery.

The Chamber urges you to help Kumamoto in their time of need. You can donate to the Kumamoto Earthquake Relief Fund at this link.
