The Chamber staff hit the polls early this week to cast their votes for the 2016 election. In addition to being a presidential year, registered voters will see several key seats up for grabs on the ballot.

At the federal level, U.S. Representatives Joaquin Castro, Lamar Smith, Will Hurd, Henry Cuellar, and Lloyd Doggett are up for re-election. In Texas, Senator seats on the ballot include districts 19, 21 and 26 with Carlos Uresti and Jose Menendez representing the Alamo City.

Beyond the many judicial seats, the ballot has candidates vying for Railroad Commissioner, Member of the State Board of Education, County Sheriff, Tax Assessor-Collector, County Commissioners for Precinct 1 and 3, and Constables for Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4.

The 2016 election is a pivotal one, and the Chamber encourages everyone to exercise their right and obligation to vote. Voting is a fundamental process that keeps our system of government working. Through elections, citizens have the ability to decide on who represents them in government, be it a local official, a state or national representative or the president. Additionally, there are important items on this year’s ballot like the $450 million SAISD Bond & TRE that could make a significant difference in the lives of the students of SAISD schools.

If you haven’t made it to the polls, there is still time. Early voting ends November 4   and election day is November 8. There are more than 40 locations across Bexar County where you can cast your vote. Registered voters can check where to vote early on the Bexar County website.

As a result of the passing of Senate Bill 14, voters are now required to present an approved form of photo identification in order to vote in all Texas Elections. Visit VoteTexas.Gov for more information.
