Why 2020 is the perfect time to visit the Land of the Pharaohs with your Chamber

As the destination of the Chamber’s 2020 membership trip, Egypt presents a unique, fun opportunity for eager adventurers.

Since the 1970s, tourism has been one of the leading and most important industries in the country, hitting its peak in 2010 with 14.7 million visitors that year. For comparison, the city of Paris welcomed 8.2 million tourists that same year. In addition to the pull of arrivals, the tourism industry employed 12 percent of the entire country’s workforce and constituted 10 percent of Egypt’s GDP.

While tourism in Egypt took a downturn during the Arab Spring and the overthrow of former President Hosni Mubarak, the industry has rebounded once again, just in time for the spring of 2020.

Unlike 2010 however, crowds in Egypt are bearable, even around the most popular of destination sites, such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. Getting the best views of landmarks and monuments without having to throw elbows with thousands of people with the same idea makes for a more relaxed, enjoyable trip.

Low amount of crowds and an affordable trip are normally mutually exclusive but not in Egypt. Travelling to Egypt and spending a week in nice hotels, seeing all the sights, and tasting the local cuisine is actually quite affordable, compared to other top travel destinations. Couple that with the unbeatable group deals provided through your Chamber, it’s too good of a deal to pass up.

Naturally, as one of the hottest countries on earth, travelling to Egypt during the summer is rarely considered a serious option. Thankfully, by travelling with the Chamber in March, guests will avoid the peak winter tourism season while avoiding the dreaded Egyptian summers. Plus, as we live and work in San Antonio, Texas, March in Egypt will be no struggle at all. And it’s a dry heat too.

Egypt is a historical land, with landmarks and stories stretching back several millennia. With its Red Sea beaches, incomparable collection of ruins, bustling metro areas of Cairo and Alexandria, and an endless sea of Sahara dunes, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. Places you only dreamed of seeing in person will stand right in front of you, as they have stood in front of others since the dawn of civilization.

Instead of asking the question “Why Egypt?” it might be more apt to say “Why not Egypt?” Additional information on the specifics of the membership trip itinerary, as well as tidbits of Egyptian culture and history, will become a mainstay of your Chamber’s blog and newsletter, until the registration early bird deadline on Oct. 23.
