Join us for an in-depth conversation with State Senator José Menéndez and State Representative Diego Bernal about the astounding impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our education system. As we approach a new academic year, school district leaders are having to balance the short- and long-term needs of students, teachers, staff, and families with state guidelines, public health orders, and infrastructure needs.
Senator Menéndez and Representative Bernal will discuss perspectives on the Texas Education Agency guidelines, STAAR testing, and the challenges of online learning given the digital divide in San Antonio. They will also talk about their respective outlooks for education in the upcoming Texas Legislative Session.
Senator Menéndez has been a longtime champion of public and higher education. He has successfully passed over 200 bills, including David’s Law in 2017, which aims to combat and prevent cyberbullying.
Representative Bernal serves as vice chair of the Public Education committee and played a leadership role in the successful passing of public school finance reform legislation last session.
