The San Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted unanimously during the December board meeting to support the restructuring of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau (SACVB) to become a designated not-for-profit 501c(6). The restructure will positively affect the city’s competitive abilities on a national and international level and ensure that our visitors have the best experience possible while they are visiting our community. The annual contributions made by visitors to our city help retain and grow businesses and improve the overall quality of life for San Antonio’s residents. The Chamber believes the new structure will give the CVB the flexibility and autonomy they need to be successful in a dynamic environment. Through additional opportunities such as private partnerships, the SACVB anticipates an increased budget that can help it compete against comparable cities.
The CVB structure change was presented to City Council on December 9, 2015, and the Council provided direction and insight for moving into a transitional phase. There will be future council approval and action for creation of a 501c(6) organization, city agreement contract, and ongoing updates.
