During our December Board of Directors Meeting, the Board unanimously approved a position statement in support of the restructuring of the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) to become a designated not-for-profit 501c(6). Last week, San Antonio City Council voted to approve the proposal to move forward with privatizing the CVB as a separate not-for-profit. On hand to testify at the City Council meeting was our President and CEO Richard Perez. This status will give the San Antonio CVB more flexibility and autonomy to move faster within the market, create new and larger funding sources, and use creative ways to grow the San Antonio tourism industry. This transition should be complete by 2017. The San Antonio Chamber is proud to have supported this effort and looks forward to the new opportunities this will bring for our community.
