Last week, the Texas Legislative Conference celebrated 50 years of hosting their annual conference attended by state legislative elected officials, local policy makers and business leaders.
For several years, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has been a sponsor of the event, which is known for hosting top leaders on hot topic legislative panels. This year sustaining the Texas economy, transportation funding and the EPA vs. Texas were critical issues discussed by the panelists. Moderators included Ray Perry (The Perryman Group), Karen Rove (Infrastructure Solutions, Inc.) and United States Congressman Lamar Smith.

During the conference, Texas House Speaker Joe Straus, winner of the 2015 Texan of the Year, introduced U.S. Senator John Cornyn as 2016 Texan of the Year to a standing ovation. A recurring theme throughout the conference was that our state is lucky to have such a strong voice within the U.S. Senate, as Senator Cornyn is the Majority Whip and second only to Senior Senator Mitch McConnell. He also sits on tow very important committees – the Senate Finance and Judiciary Committees. (The Judiciary Committee is in charge of vetting Presidential appointments, including candidates for the U.S. Supreme Court Justice seats).

Your San Antonio Chamber is continually involved in the legislative process all year around relaying important legislative issues to our members and connecting them with elected leaders. Please join us on Wednesday, April 6, as our Legislative Committee will host state Representative Bernal, Representative Minjarez, Representative Galindo and newly elected Representative Lujan for a panel on important topics for each of the state representatives within the Texas House.
