Last week, Chamber staff joined more than 300 business and community leaders, who were interested in learning more about business opportunities up and down I-35, at the Austin-San Antonio 2016 Growth Summit. The event, hosted by the Austin Business Journal and San Antonio Business Journal, was a great opportunity for business leaders within the corridor to mingle, swap ideas and interact with elected officials.
Keynote speakers Joel Kotkin, Executive Director of the Houston-based Center for Opportunity Urbanism, andJohn Beddow, CEO of Real Time Consulting, presented compelling statistics about Central Texas’ growth while a panel of mayors spoke about issues related to infrastructure development and long-term planning between cities.
The panel consisted of San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor, New Braunfels Mayor Pro Tem Wayne Peters, Mayor of San Marcos Daniel Guerrero, and Austin Mayor Steve Adler. They touched on various issues, including congestion, regional planning efforts, rideshare, and the possibility of a regional airport, just to name a few.
Described by the New York Times as “America’s urbanographer”, Joel Kotkin is an internationally recognized authority in global, economic, political, and social trends. His most recent magazine article titled “America’s Next Boom Towns” appeared in Forbes Magazine in January 2016.
The Chamber will partner with the San Antonio Business Journal to host Kotkin at the Texas Urbanism Research Project Panel Discussion scheduled for November 9.
