San Antonio to host NAACP convention in 2018

On Friday, January 13, Leon Russell, vice-chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Board of Directors and San Antonio’s Mayor Ivy R. Taylor announced that San Antonio was selected to host the NAACP annual convention in July 2018. The convention coincides with the 100th anniversary of the local NAACP chapter and the tri-centennial anniversary of the City of San Antonio.

The estimated economic impact to the community is at least $10 million, according to a statement by Cassandra Matej of Visit San Antonio. The annual NAACP convention typically brings 10,000 participants, and this will be the first time that San Antonio will play host to the NAACP’s biggest event of the year.
