Chamber Board gets sneak peek at new CAST Tech Center

Moving at warp speed, the construction of the new CAST Tech center is not only breaking records, but also breaking barriers to the endless possibilities for its first cohort of students slated to start Fall 2017.  Board members from the Chamber were able to see first-hand some of the creative concepts being put into action for this new facility which is in the heart of San Antonio’s Tech District.

Initially funded and created by HEB’s Charles Butt, the new CAST Tech is a career-themed high school focused on coding, cyber security, gaming, entrepreneurship, business and more. The campus will work alongside industry partners to prepare students for career pathways in the areas of technology and business.  Many members of our Chamber serve on the industry advisory board that include USAA, Frost Bank, Rackspace, and others.

Construction on the first of two buildings that will make up the new CAST Tech will be completed shortly before the August school start date for SAISD students.  The second building will be completed in two years, and with the passage of HB1081 (Arevalo) during the 85th legislative session, SAISD will have access to additional funding per student to assist with these construction costs.

As progress for the CAST Tech center continues, we will keep our members informed.  If you are interested in getting engaged through mentorships or financial contributions, please visit their website.
