South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless seeks donations to house Veterans

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce continues to work with many individuals and agencies who are seeking a solution to ending homelessness in our city. As such, we continue to support the American GI Forum (AGIF) efforts to provide “hands-on” services to Veterans at the community level. Additionally, we are honored to represent the business community on the South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless (SARAH) Board of Directors. As the local Continuum of Care Lead Agency, SARAH is charged with creating an improved service system that effectively provides support, coordination, and housing to all homeless populations within San Antonio and Bexar County, with a primary purpose of moving individuals and families out of homeless and into permanent homes. The goal is for homelessness to be rare, brief, and nonrecurring. Both organizations are invaluable champions for serving our homeless population.

Each November, AGIF hosts a National Veterans Outreach Program Veteran Stand Down Day, where organizations come together in one location to serve our homeless veterans to include providing food, medical and dental services, clothing and many other important supplies. Veterans and their families enjoy cheerful entertainment with live music and fun games to raise their spirits, as well.

This November, in conjunction with the Chamber’s Celebrate America’s Military (CAM), Veterans Day and the AGIF Stand Down activity, SARAH is seeking to raise enough donations to house up to 15 homeless Veterans. USAA has generously supported the city’s efforts to end veteran homelessness and has pledged to match other business-sponsor dollars to support this housing event.

Please join us in supporting these homeless veterans by ensuring enough money is raised to provide permanent houses that are ready and furnished for their big move in date.

If you are interested in providing a donation to this worthy cause, please contact Bill Hubbard, SARAH Executive Director, at billhubbard@sarahomeless.org or call 210-876-0720. If you have questions related to the Chamber’s Celebrate America’s Military events, which aim to celebrate our Nation’s Service Members and Veterans, please contact Lori Stinson, Program Director/Military Affairs, at lstinson@sachamber.org or call 210-229-2122.
