CPS Energy Seeks Applications for Board of Trustees– Extends Application Deadline

Public Service is a tremendous way for members of the business community to give back and help grow business acumen on not-for-profit boards.  One of the most important and far reaching not-for-profit boards is the CPS Energy Board of Trustees.  CPS Energy is the largest municipally owned gas and electric utility in the Nation.  Your San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has a long history of advocating for policies and projects that focus on strengthening San Antonio’s diverse business base, provide for an improved quality of life, and promote an economic development climate conducive to job retention and expansion. As one of our community’s principal economic development drivers, CPS Energy and those select individuals charged with its governance play an indispensable role in San Antonio’s collective and long-term success. Selecting exceptionally qualified individuals with solid business experience to serve on the CPS Board of Trustees is therefore imperative as the policy decisions they are charged with making will keep our municipal government financially strong, keep rates competitive and also keep the utility on the cutting edge of innovation and at the forefront of the new energy economy.

CPS is currently accepting applications to fill the expiring term of the Board of Trustees member in Quadrant 3, CPS Energy’s southeast service area including portions of City Council Districts 2 and 3.  Please click here for a map detailing the area to see if you qualify, as the successful applicant must live within that quadrant.  The link will also `provide you with the application, and an overview of the role and job qualifications.

The Board of Trustees is accountable for the long-term performance and decisions that affect the viability and sustainability of CPS Energy. The role of the Board is to provide valuable guidance and input to senior leaders who are responsible for sustaining a successful business entity that serves customers, employees and the San Antonio community.  An ideal candidate should have financial expertise, strong strategic planning and management skills, and 10-15 years of business experience in the field of economics, energy, information technology, legal, marketing and/or real estate.  Candidates should also have experience with and an appreciation for the unique responsibilities and requirements imposed on CPS Energy as a municipally owned utility.  The Chamber is therefore looking for savvy leaders with strong business acumen to apply.

Members of the Board of Trustees serve for a term of five (5) years and are eligible to serve an additional term. The Mayor of San Antonio serves as an ex-officio member.

Regular Board meetings are held on the last Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Board meeting room located on the first floor of the main office building located at 145 Navarro.
