Chamber welcomes local leaders, new Commanders, and Senior Enlisted leaders to San Antonio

The San Antonio Chamber’s Annual Commanders Reception was held last week at the historic Depot at Sunset Station. The Chamber hosted more than 200 attendees at the event, which serves as a unique opportunity for our local Military leaders to connect with our business leaders, as well as a perfect occasion to welcome the new Commanders and Senior Enlisted Leaders to San Antonio.

This year, we were welcomed by our 2018 Chair-Elect, Shaun Kennedy (Texas Capital Bank) and joined by our presenting sponsor, USAA Executive Vice President for Enterprise Strategy and Marketing, Michael Merwarth. In addition, Lt Gen Darryl Roberson, Commander of Air Education and Training Command (AETC), and LTG Jeffrey Buchanan, Commander of Fifth Army and US Army North (USARNORTH), served as our military guest speakers. Both leaders conveyed their deep appreciation to the San Antonio community for their support and friendship, as well as provided remarks surrounding their missions related to the recent Hurricane Harvey relief and support efforts.

This event is aimed at connecting the civilian community and the military community in a relaxed and social setting, which encourages interaction and relationship building. The importance of our military within the framework of San Antonio’s business community cannot be understated, and the relationships built on mutual respect and cooperation are key to ensuring the success of our military missions and our growing business industries. The opportunity to network and meet face to face is an invaluable tool in securing mutually beneficial partnerships across our region.

This event was made possible in large part to our sponsors: Presenting – USAA; Platinum – Accenture; Gold – RK Group; Bronze – General Dynamics, LMI, ISS, and Boeing.

Standing alongside the esteemed Altus Trophy, Chair-Elect Kennedy reminded the audience that this event is symbolic of the commitment of our business community to foster San Antonio’s reputation as “Military City, USA.” It is also reflective of the recent awards given to San Antonio and the surrounding region to recognize our efforts to support and sustain our robust military presence – the Altus Chamber’s 2016 Altus Trophy and a 2017 Great American Defense Community. He also reminded the audience that this reception is a foretaste of what is yet to come in the month of November – the 2017 Celebrate America’s Military (CAM) events.
