The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is excited to host our annual Celebrate America’s Military (CAM) events again this November. Since 1970, the Chamber has organized and promoted more than a dozen events, proudly presented with the generosity of our community partners, making it the largest event of its kind in the nation. Once called CAM Week, this series of events, which originally spanned a few days, now lasts more than 15 days. The vision of each event is to highlight the sacrifice and service of our nation’s military service men and women, Active Duty, Reserve and Guard.
The Chamber will be directly hosting four key events, with special thanks to our Presenting Sponsors: Silver Eagle Distributing, USAA, and Walmart.
On November 1, we will kick-off CAM with a new and exciting event in partnership with Boeing, dubbed the CAM Tip-Off, where our CAM sponsors and military members, as well as San Antonio’s community leaders, will have a unique opportunity to participate in a friendly hoops competition. The goal of this year’s Tip-Off will be increasing awareness for adaptive sports and highlighting the resiliency of our Wounded Warriors. Attendance at the game, to be held at Morgan’s Wonderland, will be by invitation only – please let us know if your organization is interested in joining in the fun!
On November 2, your Chamber will host the SNCO Reception to recognize the critical roles San Antonio’s Senior Enlisted leaders play in the readiness, morale, and success of our nation’s military. The historic VFW Post 76 is the perfect venue to celebrate our SNCOs with good food and music! All SNCO’s in uniform will receive an opportunity to win one of a number of unique items gifted by our sponsoring organizations and businesses. This event is open to CAM sponsors and civilian and community guests by invitation only. All Senior NCOs in uniform are free to attend with a guest, no registration required.
Our annual Birdies for the Brave Golf Tournament (B4B) is one of the most eagerly anticipated events each year. This marks the 5th year your Chamber and TPC San Antonio will be partnering for the CAM Golf Classic. Through this partnership, CAM has been able to donate nearly 100% of the funds raised through the tournament to the PGA Tour’s Birdies for the Brave charity, which supports worthwhile military-supporting charities across the nation. On November 6, we’ll rise early and hit the links for a fun-filled golf tournament. Each four-some consists of two civilian sponsors and two military members. This is a great opportunity to share in a little friendly competition and enjoy one of San Antonio’s most beautiful courses. Registration for this event is required.
On November 9, perhaps San Antonio’s most patriotic event of the year, the Chamber’s Annual Spirit of America Dinner will be held to pay tribute to the men and women of our nation’s military, past, present and future. Join us for our highlight event during Celebrate America’s Military for a moving recognition of active duty military personnel and veterans, and an inspiring address by this year’s Keynote Speaker, Taya Kyle. Since the tragic loss of her Navy SEAL husband, Chris Kyle, Taya has continued to forge Chris’ legacy through the formation of the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation. The Chris Kyle Frog Foundation is based on the Kyle’s values of God, Country and Family. The Foundation is unique in its work to strengthen military and first responder marriages so the family unit not only survives, but thrives while they serve. Taya Kyle is a mother, New York Times bestselling author, a Fox News Contributor and a public speaker taking her philosophy of the “ripple effect” to millions of people across the United States. Registration is required for this spectacular dinner celebration.
Numerous other events and activities will be held throughout the first three weeks of November, including the Joint Base San Antonio Air Show and Open House, to be held at Kelly Field on November 4 and 5. This Air Show and Open House will be fun for the whole family!
This year, the Chamber is once again looking for Hidden Heroes throughout Joint Base San Antonio, We will recognize these Active Duty, Guard and Reserve Service Members in our military community who routinely give their time, energy and skills as expected, and then consistently give an extra measure to their military duties, and many to the civilian community in which they live. There are many of these men and women who have saved lives, have supported vital missions, and have accomplished other key achievements that often go unnoticed. We will recognize these heroes throughout CAM and in a special way at the Spirit of America Dinner. Nomination forms can be found at our CAM website and will be accepted until October 4, 2017.
