Last week, business and community leaders filled the beautiful Chamber West Patio to honor the Bexar County delegation. The event gave attendees the opportunity to honor the delegation’s success and show appreciation for their hard work this past legislative session. Check out pictures from the event!
The celebration kicked off with San Antonio Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Richard Perez welcoming everyone to the Chamber and speaking briefly on the integral role our State leaders play in ensuring San Antonio maintains a business friendly environment and thriving economy.
The Chamber’s 2017 Legislative Committee Chair Juan Antonio Flores, Executive VP of Government Affairs at Port San Antonio, had the privilege of introducing all members of the delegation as well as highlight their individual accomplishments. The delegation have been tremendous supporters of the Chamber’s state legislative priorities. They supported efforts to fund the Alamo Master Plan, preserve funding for the Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEAAG), reform school finance, and protect our military bases from encroachment. Most importantly, we applauded the delegation for their efforts in opposing legislation that would limit local control and undermine the fundamental authority of cities.
Dean of the Delegation Roland Gutierrez made memorable remarks by thanking the members of the delegation for fighting hard to support meaningful legislation for San Antonio. He concluded the program by leading a toast to honor the strong collaboration between the delegation and the business community. Members of the delegation then joined Chairman Gutierrez for a group photo.
Much of the Chamber’s success in securing funding and legislative support for projects and programs that benefit our business community can be attributed to our strong partnership with the delegation. We look forward to working with them during the interim to ensure the Chamber’s priorities are at the forefront. The Chamber has already begun to engage the delegation on the issues that are important to the business community. Senate interim charges have been submitted and House interim charges are currently being developed.
On behalf of the Chamber, we would like to thank our presenting sponsor Port San Antonio. We would also like to thank all gold sponsors including Augie’s Alamo City BBQ Steakhouse, Silver Eagle Distributors, the RK Group and USAA.
