Chamber attends first Housing Policy Task Force meeting

Mayor Ron Nirenberg has launched a new Housing Policy Task Force focusing on addressing the growing demand for affordable housing in our community. As our city rapidly grows, our affordable housing opportunities dwindle. Mayor Ron Nirenberg has recognized this issue and has gathered experts to develop and update set policies that address the subject with sensitivity and compassion.

The newly formed task force will continue to meet over the next few months to understand how to align existing resources and address issues of gentrification, displacement, and the need for rehabilitation of existing housing stock.

The goal is to execute a strategy that will result in policy recommendations that the community and the City Council will have an opportunity to approve and implement. Ensuring that community members’ voices are heard is important to the staff, who held the first public meeting yesterday at San Antonio Central Library.

The Housing Policy Task Force is chaired by Lourdes Castro Ramirez, who is joined by an impressive group of community and business leaders: Jim Bailey, Maria Antonietta Berriozabal, Gene Dawson and Noah Garcia.
