Celebrate America’s Military tips off with opening ceremony

Today the Chamber had the honor of “tipping off” our 2017 Celebrate America’s Military.  Presented by Boeing and hosted at Morgan’s Wonderland, the opening ceremony featured the South Texas Regional Adaptive and Paralympic Sports (STRAPS) organization who played a friendly game of wheelchair basketball against able-bodied members of the San Antonio business community.

STRAPS is a league of athletes unlike any other.  40% of the organization is made up of wounded warriors or veterans. The mission of STRAPS is to organize, promote, administer and conduct a variety of adaptive and Paralympic sports for wounded warriors, veterans, as well as other adults and children.  The athletes of STRAPS often work with schools and other youth groups to promote the values embodied by competitive athletes.

In the end the STRAPS players defeated their opponents by nearly double. Celebrate America’s Military will run until November 18th with many more exciting events such as this one.  If you would like to take part or sponsor please visit www.celebrateamericasmilitary.com.
