With December just in the line of sight, 2017 seems to have flown by. This year was definitely an exciting and successful year for San Antonio and its business community. As a fitting way to end the year, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is choosing to Celebrate San Antonio at their 123rd Annual Gala on December 7 at the GDC Hangar at Port San Antonio. During the Gala, we will not only pay tribute to the Alamo City, but we will also honor our outgoing Chairman of the Board Rad Weaver, CEO of McCombs Partners.
Under Rad’s leadership, and through the tireless efforts of more than 1,200 volunteers, the Chamber has had an extremely productive year. Each December, the Chamber’s incoming Chairman introduces initiatives that he or she would like to accomplish during the following year, and Rad’s 2017 initiatives focused primarily on encouraging employer engagement in mentoring, improving community wellness throughout the city, and tracking and influencing key legislation during the 85th Legislative Session. His year of serving the Chamber can be summed up in one word – successful, and his contributions will have a long-lasting effect on San Antonio.
In addition to successfully implementing the Chairman’s priorities, the Chamber team focused on many economic development opportunities, promoted business priorities to elected leaders, developed strong education and workforce initiatives, and ensured strong military relationships. As in years past, we hosted close to 100 events, including SA to DC, Tribute to Women Business Leaders, Celebrate America’s Military (CAM), networking events, ribbon cuttings, and the inaugural SA Tech Trek during Fiesta. The Tech Trek brought nearly 1,000 attendees downtown to tech offices, co-working spaces, and organizations along Houston Street. Additionally, during our membership campaign, we brought in $505,000 and 240 new members, making the campaign the largest and most successful in the country. Most recently, the Chamber played a key role in helping San Antonio become a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
During the Annual Gala, we will celebrate these accomplishments and the volunteers who continue to drive our city forward. We will also introduce their 2018 Chairman of the Board Shaun Kennedy, San Antonio Regional Chairman of Texas Capital Bank and hear his plans and priorities for 2018.
This exciting and memorable evening will include an extraordinary cocktail reception on the tarmac at the GDC Hangar, a tribute to San Antonio’s military, live entertainment, opportunities to mix and mingle, a lively after party, and a few surprises along the way.
