Working Groups of the Mayor’s Housing Task Force Begin Sessions

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce was invited to participate in the Removing Barriers to Housing Affordability and Supply technical working group, which held its first meeting on February 8. The group is charged with developing policy recommendations to address the shrinking supply of affordable housing in San Antonio. Members of the group represent a variety of industries and specializations, such as builders, architects, and construction companies, which face hurdles with each property they develop. Topics ranged from short-term rentals and zoning ordinances to accessibility such as mass transportation and sidewalks.

The working group and the four others (Providing Housing for All, Including Special Needs Populations; Developing and Preserving Housing for Stable, Equitable, and Resilient Neighborhoods; Identifying New Housing Funding and Financing Mechanisms; and Creating a Transparent, Coordinated Housing System) will continue meeting in February and provide recommendations to the Housing Task Force which will present a draft report in the Spring.

The Housing Task Force was created by Mayor Ron Nirenberg in 2017 and is chaired by Lourdes Castro Ramirez. More information on the Mayor’s Task Force on Housing is available on the City’s website at
