The San Antonio Chamber’s Military Affairs Council held its first meeting and was honored to have our Chairman of the Board, Shaun Kennedy, San Antonio Regional Chairman of Texas Capital Bank, visit to discuss his Chamber priorities and highlight the vision for our Military Affairs Council going into the new year. The Council’s goal is to engage business and the larger military community throughout Joint Base San Antonio to celebrate, support, maintain and grow the military presence in San Antonio.
Priorities for 2018 include supporting service members transitioning to the civilian sector and encouraging the hiring of Military Spouses. We are excited to see early traction on that goal by recently being designated as the US Chamber’s first city in the nation as a Military Spouse Economic Empowerment Zone, allowing others to be aware of the advantages to hiring military spouses across a wide variety of positions and. We will also strive to maintain “Military City USA” status, reinvigorate and revitalize the Chamber Liaison program, and establish a task force to identify strengths of our community to support our military missions, now and in the future. Chairman Kennedy answered questions related to the value of volunteering with the Chamber and the impact of the military on our city’s economy. “You get what you put into it, and your investment in the Chamber will reap great rewards if you participate and engage with us,” Kennedy stated. The Council is looking forward to Chairman Kennedy’s continued support for all of our military initiatives, engagements, and events in 2018 and we are eager to accomplish many tasks to support our Military Partners throughout the Alamo area on behalf of our valued investors.
