Right now is a very critical time for Texas, as there are several open seats to fill in the general election this November at both the State Legislature and the US Congress.
The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s mission is to build and sustain a vibrant business community by engaging business owners, policymakers, and influencers to address issues and opportunities important to our members. We strongly believe the relationship between the business community and our elected leaders is essential for economic prosperity in San Antonio and throughout Texas. That is why we are committed to keeping our members informed of who is on the ballot, important dates to remember, and what is at stake. Most importantly, we want to encourage residents to hit the polls.
There are two especially important seats to fill this election: Texas House of Representatives District 121, held by Speaker of the House Joe Straus (R-San Antonio), and US Congressional District 21, held by longstanding Congressman Lamar Smith (R-Texas). Both representatives have decided not to run for re-election, which will make it that much more important to get to know the fresh faces vying for those seats.
The run-off election is scheduled for May 22, with early voting running May 14 – May 18. In an effort to get you prepared to hit the polls, we are hosting a 2018 Primary Election Candidate Forum. The purpose of the forum is to inform our members about candidates’ positions on issues most important to the business community, including transportation, education and workforce, tourism, business development, and more.
The event will be available to watch on Facebook Live. Our 2018 Chairman of the Board Shaun Kennedy will be moderating the forum and will be taking questions from members live. Mark your calendars and make sure to tune-in!
