48th Celebrate America’s Military was a huge success

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce was excited to host its 48th year of the Celebrate America’s Military (CAM) events. None of the events would have been possible without the generosity and support of our Title Sponsors: USAA, Silver Eagle and Walmart, along with the many presenting event and CAM sponsors. Beginning on October 30, the 2 week celebration included more than 30 events all paying tribute and commemorating the brave men and women in uniform.

The inaugural CAM Prayer Breakfast, sponsored by Deloitte, kicked off the celebrations by honoring the service of our Military Chaplains. Active Duty Chaplains, representing Islamic, Christian, and Jewish faiths, offered remarks and keynote speaker David Reid, Director of the Robert Irvine Foundation, spoke on the key role Military Chaplains play during peacetime and war.

The following day, sponsors and community members had the opportunity to play in an exhibition wheelchair basketball game alongside the South Texas Regional Adaptive Sports (STRAPS) team. The CAM Tip-Off, sponsored by Boeing, celebrated the resiliency of wounded warriors. The next evening, Senior Non-commissioned Officers from throughout Joint Base San Antonio and CAM Sponsors gathered at the historic VFW Post 76 for the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Reception hosted by Goodwill.

The 2 weeks of events, honoring military heroes, all lead up to the Spirit of America Dinner. We were honored to be joined by keynote speaker Chef Robert Irvine of the Robert Irvine Foundation, as well as many Military Service Members and Leaders and distinguished guests including Gold Star Families and two WWII Veterans and their families. In addition to cooking, one of Chef Irvine’s passions is supporting Military men and women, first responders, and their families. His remarks inspired and challenged the audience to give back to the military community

“San Antonio’s title of ‘Military City USA’ should not be in name only – we should all take up the mantle of action, serving and giving back to the military who provide so much for our security and safety,” Chef Irvine said. “Events such as these are to be recognized as invaluable to bringing an awareness of crossing the borders of the installations and making the Military members feel appreciated and welcome.”

Proceeds from this year’s CAM events will be forwarded to advance the mission and events supported by the Robert Irvine Foundation.
