Host a United States Airman for Thanksgiving dinner

San Antonio proudly wears its distinction as Military City U.S.A on its sleeve. This holiday season, you and your family have the opportunity to make that promise a little more personal though “Operation Home Cooking.” An annual tradition for 44 years, local residents can to host United States Air Force Airmen and basic trainees stationed at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland at their home for Thanksgiving. This tradition has afforded our men and women in uniform the courtesy and joy of a delicious Thanksgiving meal and even better company—which is not always guaranteed to these heroes.

Last year, nearly 4,500 Air Force personnel shared Thanksgiving with local civilian families, made possible by this program. If you and your family are interested in adding up to two more seats at the dinner table, service members can be invited by calling 210-671-5453, 5454, or 3701 for a general request. Specific Airmen can be hosted, provided the hosting family is kin to the guest and lives in the San Antonio area. Requests will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting Oct. 28.
