San Antonio Chamber Board of Directors Elects 2020 Leadership

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors reaffirmed the election of Adam Hamilton as the 2020 Chair of the Board of Directors. Hamilton is the President and CEO of Southwest Research Institute, one of the nation’s largest independent providers of advanced scientific and applied technology solutions. A not-for-profit 501(c)(3) conducting more than $500 million of research each year, the Institute provides solutions for problems encountered from deep sea to deep space, and practically everywhere in between.

“I am both humbled and honored to take on this leadership role in the Chamber,” said Hamilton. “I believe the Chamber is a powerful tool that we can use to help our business community thrive while we also serve our community. We are a fast-growing city in a fast-growing state, and we have a bright future ahead of us. I believe our rich culture and heritage make San Antonio a special place where business leaders can advance commerce and city at the same time. I look forward to helping the business community, through the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, contribute to the next chapter of San Antonio’s growth and prosperity.”

He holds an M.S. degree in Engineering and a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering, both from The University of Texas at Austin. He has been a Professional Engineer since 1993. During his career, Hamilton has provided technical expertise to myriad programs in government and industry. His multidisciplinary technical expertise includes engineering, science, and risk assessment. Before joining SwRI, Hamilton was the founding President and CEO of Signature Science, LLC, which is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Institute and specializes in national security, biotechnology, chemistry, environmental science and engineering. Prior to starting Signature Science, he was employed at Austin-based Radian Corporation.

Hamilton currently serves on the Executive Committee of the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. He is a member on the External Advisory Committee of the University of Texas at Austin Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics and has served on the board of the University of Texas at San Antonio College of Sciences Advancement Council.  He is a Trustee of the San Antonio Medical Foundation and a Special Trustee of the Texas Biomedical Research Institute. Hamilton is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering Industry Advisory Board, a member of the Industry and Community Affiliates of The Academy of Medicine, Engineering & Science of Texas, and a member of the Dee Howard Foundation Board of Directors.


Nominating Task Force Selects 2020 Chair-elect

The Nominating Task Force also selected Hope Andrade as the 2020 Chair-elect. Andrade is a Partner with GO RIO Cruises.

“As a lifelong entrepreneur, I understand firsthand the role that the Chamber must play in order for our business community to thrive,” said Andrade. “In addition, through my experiences in government with transportation, workforce and economic development, I believe that we can continue to champion these issues which are so vital for the continued success of our city. San Antonio is at a very important point in its history, and if we are going to continue forward as a truly premier metropolitan area, we must ensure that we are a business-friendly community. In my role as Chair-elect in 2020 and Chair in 2021, I will work diligently to make sure that this is achieved.”

Andrade has been a successful entrepreneur, business leader, and government official in the state of Texas for more than three decades. She has served as Texas’ 107th Secretary of State, Texas Workforce Commissioner, and Texas Department of Transportation Commissioner. An entrepreneur who has created, grown, and profitably sold three high growth companies, Andrade brings a broad business perspective with particular expertise in healthcare, transportation, workforce, and economic development.

In addition to holding multiple leadership roles in civic and community organizations, she is the recipient of numerous personal, business, and community awards and recognitions, and is a sought after public speaker. She is a determined and proactive ambassador for local and national economic development.

Most recently, Andrade has played an integral role in the founding and operating success of GO RIO San Antonio River Cruises and Andrade-Van de Putte & Associates.
