The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors approved the Chamber’s 2020 Federal Legislative Agenda at the December 18 meeting. This document sets out the Chamber’s official position on a wide range of federal legislative issues that directly impact business and our community at large. The goal of this agenda is to promote and drive important initiatives that ensure the city remains the best place to live, work, and play.
Key funding request include reimbursement for Mission Reach, recapitalization of Kelly Field and transportation. Other key legislative priorities include a permanent solution for DACA participants, Senate approval of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA), and guidance to address Bexar County’s recent non-attainment designation.
Developing the agenda was a collaborative process that began early this year. The Chamber gathered input on policy and legislative strategy through the priorities identified by the Board, Chamber council and committee meetings, and meetings with members of the Bexar County Delegation.
The Federal Legislative Agenda lays the groundwork for the Chamber’s 42nd annual SA to DC trip scheduled for February 3-6, 2020. This year we have a great program lined up that includes members of leadership and agency officials. Panel discussions, featuring members of the Bexar County Delegation, include:
- Economic Mobility,
- Workforce Development,
- International Trade, and
- Election Security.
SA to DC is a great opportunity for business and industry leaders in San Antonio to visit with key members of Congress and Administration officials. Those who participate put forth a tremendous amount of effort to bring the top priorities for the business community to the attention of lawmakers. Our city has drawn national attention for the exemplary way our business, community, and government leaders come together in Washington, D.C. and advocate for our economic prosperity by supporting our military, improving educational outcomes, cultivating local talent, bolstering our infrastructure and prioritizing policies that allow businesses to flourish. Your presence will be invaluable as we advocate for major issues that affect the competitive future of San Antonio.
In partnership with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the San Antonio Mobility Coalition, and the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, we are already working to make this SA to DC trip the best one yet!
