The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is delighted that the Senate overwhelmingly approved the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement today. This trade agreement is a huge win for our community and for our state.
As the oldest and largest business organization in San Antonio, representing 2,100 businesses across San Antonio and the region, we have pushed for a strong, modernized NAFTA for the last two years, including testifying in front of the Senate Finance Committee in fall of 2017, and speaking to business and government leaders across Texas, Mexico, and Canada. We thank Senator John Cornyn, Chairman of the Subcommittee on International Trade, Customs, and Global Competitiveness, and Senator Ted Cruz for their leadership on such an important issue for the Texas economy. We would also like to thank local businesses with expertise in international trade, including IBC Bank, partner Chambers of Commerce here in San Antonio and throughout the country, and our local elected officials, who worked diligently along with us to make this agreement a reality.
We look forward to President Trump signing the USMCA next week, and we know this will provide the certainty to continue investments in the greater San Antonio region.
Richard Perez, President and CEO
