Alamo Academies deliver STEM opportunities to local students

Alamo Academies began in 2001 with a focus on exposing students to industry-driven Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) careers. Five programs are offered, which provide opportunities to juniors and seniors in high school from across the city to develop experience in their selected fields of study and set them for a job or certification in the field following graduation.

  • Advanced Technology & Manufacturing Academy
  • Aerospace Academy
  • Diesel Technology Academy
  • Health Professions Academy
  • Information Technology & Security Academy

The unique partnership includes support from Alamo Colleges, school districts, city and private employers all investing in students enrolled in these programs.

Despite the impact of COVID-19 on the traditional program, Alamo Academies was able to host a drive-thru graduation for 95 students in July. The fall semester will begin with remote instruction with the exception of labs.

Additionally, each summer, interns are placed at various employers across the community, who pay students for hands-on experience. Thank you to the following organizations—many of whom are members of our Chamber—for finding a way to safely offer work-based learning experiences to students this summer:

  • Accenture
  • Boeing
  • CPS Energy
  • CyberTexas
  • HOLT CAT
  • Joyson Safety Systems
  • Martin Marietta
  • PSI
  • StandardAero
  • Toyota
  • VIA
  • Workforce Solutions Alamo
