The 87th Texas Legislative Session is fast approaching, and your Chamber is geared up to meet with state leaders on issues important to the San Antonio business community. The Chamber’s Board of Directors adopted our state legislative agenda on Thursday, where Tyler Lowe, Manager of Community and Government Relations for Vulcan Materials Company presented priorities brought forward from the various San Antonio industry sectors.
Lowe acknowledged the tremendous progress made last legislative session to support legislation and appropriations for improved infrastructure, public and higher education, economic development, improved access to healthcare, and sustaining and growing military missions, just to name a few. He also emphasized how the business community needs support for recovery efforts and investment to address COVID-19, helping our community get people back to work and reinvigorate our economy. The Chamber has already begun meeting with State leaders, including Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and Representative-Elect Liz Campo (HD-19). Last week, Lt. Governor Patrick told the Chamber liability protection for businesses is his top priority this legislative session. This week, Governor Abbott shared the same sentiment, saying he is currently working with legislators to have a robust law passed. Gov. Abbott also told the Chamber that Texas should expect an economic jolt once vaccine distribution gets underway, and that it provides a moment to capitalize on the opportunity for economic development as businesses are looking to relocate to Texas.
As we close out 2020, know that making your priorities heard by your elected leaders is priority for the Chamber as we enter the new year.
