This week, Governor Abbott announced that the Texas Education Agency would now release ESSER III funds from the federal government as the latest relief package. TEA also provided guidance to local districts on how much would be allocated to them. Your Chamber, along with dozens of other Chambers in Texas, signed on to a letter supporting the measure. The latest release of funds was good news after our advocacy efforts and does provide some much needed relief to our schools, but the situation is not completely resolved. These dollar amounts, while dramatic, are not the total amount provided by Congress as emergency relief. Additionally, these dollar amounts fall short of what districts have already spent since March 2020 that was not budgeted, and is less than what is anticipated will be spent for the remainder of this school year. The Chamber will continue to update our members on the progress of this issue and opportunities to influence its outcome.
