Geekdom Hosts Non-Profit and Educational Partners for Startup Week

In keeping with their community-driven mindset, Geekdom joined forces with 80/20, Student + Startups, San Antonio Startup Week, and Techstars to put on a three-day intensive startup camp for young entrepreneurs, innovators, thinkers, and dreamers.

This group of young “geeks” spent three days working in a collaborative team environment to take their ideas through the process of strategic planning by conducting research with target markets, formulating a creative and promotional strategy, and developing a visual prototype for their product. On the final day, these five teams presented to a panel of judges in a Shark Tank-style presentation, having limited time to pitch their idea, answer questions, and win over the judges’ and audiences’ innovative minds.

Jeff Fair, the Chamber’s Vice President of Cybersecurity and Economic Development sat on the three-person panel to judge the five presentations and select a winner. The judges had the opportunity to ask the presenters questions about their presentation and meet with the participants after the event, making connections and encouraging these innovators to continue their creativity and ingenuity.

Each of the five products that were pitched focused on apps driven by collaboration, bringing companies to their end user and vice versa. From the pitches to the team environment to the collaborative atmosphere that surrounds everything Geekdom does, these young innovators gained invaluable experience. The Chamber looks forward to the future of startup companies here in San Antonio as we continue to partner with Geekdom and similar companies to encourage the next generation to keep dreaming and keep creating innovative solutions.
