Cyber Texas Foundation Seeks Skilled Mentors for Annual Competition

CyberPatriot XIV teams will soon form and begin to prepare for their competition later this year. To assist the coaches and students, the Cyber Texas Foundation needs technical mentors. Individuals who are IT or cybersecurity professionals willing to serve as mentors are a tremendous asset to the students. We expect to have 300+ teams in San Antonio for this year’s CyberPatriot competition.

The CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Education Program was created by the Air Force Association to inspire high school and middle school students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future. At the core of the CyberPatriot program is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, which challenges teams of students to resolve real-life cybersecurity situations in a virtual environment.

Technical mentors can expect to spend 1-4 hours per week over 1-2 visits each week and will be paired with team coaches. Mentors can volunteer for a specific school district or school. Ultimately, technical mentors help students to look for common vulnerabilities, solutions to vulnerabilities and learn digital forensics on different operating systems.
