Your Chamber was thrilled to be on hand to celebrate the grand opening of the North East Independent School District’s Institute for Cybersecurity and Innovation on Tuesday night. Joining NEISD’s Superintendent Dr. Sean Maika at the ribbon cutting were San Antonio City Councilmember Clayton Perry, Bexar County Commissioner Trish DeBerry, and State Board of Education Member Rebecca Bell-Metereau. The institute is the newest magnet program for NEISD, with an estimated 170-student inaugural freshman class.
The curriculum includes an introduction to foundational principles of cybersecurity leading to the opportunity to earn several industry certifications before graduation. The facility boasts a networking lab and a security operations center that are both state-of-the-art, giving students critical hands-on experience. The magnet program has cultivated partnerships with local cybersecurity experts who can provide students with mentoring and learning opportunities.
We know that the cyber leaders of tomorrow are sitting in classrooms today, and a rapidly growing demand illustrates the need for a steady stream of qualified and well-trained professionals to enter the workforce in the coming years. The grand opening event provided local cybersecurity industry leaders the opportunity to tour the facility and get a glimpse of what may be possible for their future employees. Several Chamber members and partners attended the launch to provide support for building a pipeline of skilled professionals for this critical industry.
