Chamber Celebrates the Spirit of San Antonio at 127th Annual Gala

On Thursday, December 2, your Chamber hosted our 127th Annual Gala in a spectacular, unexpected, and fun-filled fashion. It was truly a night of celebration and camaraderie, paying tribute to the sounds, sights, and people who make San Antonio special. It was also an evening to give thanks and prepare for ongoing efforts to push our beloved city forward.

As a surprise for our guests and to set the stage for the rest of the evening, the event kicked off with an amazing performance from Latin Cover Band ¡VIVO!, whose upbeat crowd favorites instantly set the tone for the rest of the gala. Attendees were also encouraged to mix and mingle, visit with friends, and catch up with colleagues they may not have seen during the pandemic.

At the onset of the official program, new member and Founder and CEO of Hearts Need Art: Creative Support for Patients and Caregiver Constanza Roeder performed the National Anthem, and Former Chamber Chair and Chief Executive Officer for Pape-Dawson Engineers Sam Dawson led the invocation.

Following more entertainment from Mariachi Fiesta de San Antonio, the program continued with the Chamber’s 2021 Chair of the Board Hope Andrade taking the stage, reflecting on her year of leadership, and thanking all who carried us through unprecedented times.

“Yes, the economic impact of COVID has been tough, but as entrepreneurs and business leaders, we are tougher,” Hope said. “We know firsthand that during tough times, we will work harder. And, in order to survive, we have to be flexible, adaptive and resilient. We did, and we persevered!”

During her heartfelt remarks, Hope thanked her leadership team, the special group of volunteers who led our Councils, Committees, and Special Initiatives and went above and beyond to meet many needs during the year.

She ended her speech with an uplifting message, “A pandemic can’t rob us of our entrepreneurial spirit, nor our sense of community – two things which are the bedrock of what makes our business community here so very special. Our collective efforts during these challenging times have reminded us, once again, that San Antonio is a great place to live, a great place to visit and most importantly, it is still a GREAT place to do business. I will also add a great place to celebrate!”

Following a short entertainment break featuring Mariachi Nuevo Estilo, who are well-known for competing on America’s Got Talent and their unique style of fusing traditional mariachi and pop music, incoming Chair Phil Green took to the stage, thanked our attendees for their support of the Chamber, and introduced his leadership team.

During his remarks, Phil shared that he believes San Antonio is special because of our unique ability to collaborate and address issues and that our core competency and key to our success is service. “It’s just another way of saying we are a community of organizations that understand how to extend grace to others,” Phil explained.

He encouraged our city’s business leaders to lean into and own collaboration, service, and grace, explaining that the more we do, the more distinctive it makes us, and the more attractive San Antonio becomes.

To close, he shared the Chamber’s goals for 2022. First, the Chamber will continue to advocate for the San Antonio business community with an attitude of collaboration, service, and grace. We will also support important civic initiatives, including the planned improvements to the San Antonio airport, which are critical to helping us reach our maximum potential for economic development. Finally, we will look inward and honestly at our organization and determine if we are structured most effectively to be the voice of the business community as a force for good.
