Congresswoman Granger presented the Lonestar Statesman Award in Washington, D.C.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, esteemed U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger was presented the 2024 Lonestar Statesman Award at The Texas Round-Up, held in Washington, D.C.

The Lonestar Statesman Award recognizes a distinguished public servant who, like the heroes of the Alamo, leads with an adventurous and courageous heart; pursues opportunity for the betterment of community, state, and nation; and fearlessly defends our cherished American values. Congresswoman Granger earned her spot among Texas trailblazers as the first female mayor of Fort Worth; the first Republican woman to represent Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives; the first Republican woman to sit on the powerful Defense Appropriations Subcommittee; and the first in GOP female to become chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee (a position she currently holds). The congresswoman has long been recognized as a bipartisan dealmaker, fighting for conservative issues with resolve – not rancor; and leveraged her expertise in national security matters and appropriations to help generate hundreds of thousands of military and defense industry jobs. Granger will retire at the end of her term after 26 years in Congress and extraordinary contributions to Texas and the nation.

The Texas Round-Up celebrated the Lone Star State's vibrant culture and dynamic business environment. Guests were transported to the heart of Texas with an Ace Reid-style, country-western experience as part of the Greater San Antonio's Chamber of Commerce SA to DC advocacy trip to the nation's capital. Many members of the Texas Congressional delegation were in attendance, and the event culminated with a live concert by country music legend Crystal Gayle.

Congressman Henry Cuellar of the 28th District kicked off the event with a welcome and opening prayer: "Heavenly Father, we thank you for bringing us here tonight to break bread – or, at least, pass the cornbread. We know that sharing a meal is often the best way to build a friendship and find common ground; no doubt our nation can benefit from more of these."

Congressman Tony Gonzales of District 23 then presented the award to Congresswoman Granger: "We can't thank you enough, Chairwoman, for all that you do for Texas and all that you've done for us, and I know that's never going to stop."
