For more than 40 years, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has been honored to host its annual Command Reception as an opportunity for new and seasoned military leaders to network with business members from throughout the Alamo Region. After moving the event successfully to a virtual platform last year, we were eager to meet in person last week, following current CDC safety protocols, to take advantage of the beautiful newly designed expansive Lakeside ballroom and outdoor veranda space overlooking the Red Berry Estate Lake. More than 150 guests attended, including military leaders from Joint Base San Antonio, civilian business members, and local elected representatives, all gathered to show their support for our military men and women, their important missions, and to say “Thank you” for their service. With more than 75% of Joint Base San Antonio’s military service members, civilians, and families residing off the installations and within our local communities, it is critical to establish trusted connections to ensure they are supported while they spend their time in uniform here in Military City, U.S.A. As service members transition into our great city, it is our honor and purpose to welcome them to their new home and blur the lines of the installation boundaries – creating “One City” where military spouses find ample career opportunities, military children take advantage of top-notch educational opportunities, and servicemen and women have the resources they need to complete their missions safely and successfully. The event, presented by USAA and sponsored by Port San Antonio, Endeavors, ProCare Collision and Regions Bank, was a great success. Speakers representing the Army, Navy, and Air Force branches of service included:
  • Lieutenant General Timothy Haugh, Commander, Sixteenth Air Force, Air Forces Cyber, and Joint Force Headquarters-Cyber, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.
  • Major General Robert Whittle, Deputy Commanding General - Operations, United States Army North (Fifth Army), Joint Base San Antonio – Fort Sam Houston and
  • Rear Admiral Cindy Kuehner, Commander, Naval Medical Forces Support Command and Director of the Navy Nurse Corps
Representing USAA was President and CEO Wayne Peacock, who recognized the sacrifices our military has made to defend our democracy, especially in the past 20 years.
