Last Wednesday, a group of approximately 160 business leaders in San Antonio attended our second Military City USA, Military Speaker Series event.  Lieutenant General Perry Wiggins, the Senior Commander for Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis and the Commanding General of US Army North, was our guest of honor and keynote speaker. In his remarks, General Wiggins reminded the audience that Military City USA is a title earned over many years through constant engagement between the community and its service members and that it is important that both sides continue to actively pursue opportunities to live, work and play together.  The closing of the base gates after 9/11 created challenges that previous generations didn’t have to deal with, but he reminded us that engagement needs to continue to be a priority.  General Wiggins shared his father’s experience as a young Air Force enlistee in San Antonio, where the community bent over backwards to reach out to service men and women and how those memories have lasted a life time. This event gave our members an opportunity to learn about critical issues and help us to express our gratitude to General Wiggins for leading our Army to keep all of us safe. The General’s involvement in this community is second to none, and we know he cares deeply about this city he has called home for most of the past seven years! Our series presenting sponsor, USAA, represented by Shon Manasco, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, and Dan Brouillette, USAA’s Senior Vice President for Government and Industry Relations, were joined by Gold sponsor Steves and Sons Door Company, represented by owners Edward and Sam Steves.  Our Bronze sponsor Silver Eagle Distributors rounded out this great team that helped make the event a resounding success.
