As part of our Road to Session Series, the leader of the Texas General Land Office, Commissioner George P. Bush, addressed an attentive crowd of local business leaders, elected officials and members of The Alamo Endowment Board of Directors. Jim D. Dannenbaum, member of The Alamo Endowment and the President and CEO of Dannenbaum Engineering, the event’s platinum sponsor, introduced the San Antonio Chamber’s guest of honor. Commissioner Bush outlined the great strides The Land Office has been making with public school funding resources from oil and gas, health facilities for our veterans, coastline protection and historical preservation as an economic development impact for our state. Bush outlined a few of the restoration efforts included in the Joint Alamo Master Plan Agreement with the City of San Antonio. He also recognized and thanked our local state delegation, especially Representative Diego Bernal for advocating millions of dollars in the 2015 Legislative Budget directly for The Alamo’s redevelopment project. Some necessary structural upgrades have already been made to the historic site. As part of the innovative vision to engage visitors to the plaza, the Land Office purchased the Woolworth, Crockett and Palace Buildings across the street from the landmark. Bush stated, “We have to make sure that the Alamo is as powerful in the 21st century as it was in 1836,” and that includes portraying the area to its likeness from history. Your San Antonio Chamber is continually involved in the legislative process, relaying important legislative issues to our members and connecting them with elected leaders.
