Yesterday, the Chamber hosted a luncheon with the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives Joe Straus and four distinguished members of the Texas House from across the state: Representative Geanie Morrison (District 30), Representative Angie Chen Button (District 112), Representative Cindy Burkett (District 113),) and Representative Linda Koop (District 102). As we approach the beginning of the 85th Texas Legislative session, it is imperative that we build connections with legislators from across the state and share our priorities that are most important to the San Antonio area. The priorities we presented included the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF), resources to support House Bill 5 implementation, and limited restrictions for cities and counties regarding revenue caps.
Representative Geanie Morrison, who represents Aransas, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Refugio, and Victoria counties, serves as Chair of the Environmental Regulation & Federal Environmental committees and serves on the Higher Education committee including the subcommittee on Secondary & Workforce Readiness, and Coastal Barrier System committee.
Representative Angie Chen Button, who represents parts of Garland, Richardson, Rowlett, and Sachse in Dallas County serves as the Chair of the Economic and Small Business Development Committee and on the Ways & Means and Rules & Resolutions Committees.
Representative Cindy Burkett, who represents parts of Balch Springs, Combine, Dallas, Garland, Mesquite, Rowlett, Seagoville, and Sunnyvale, serves on the Appropriations committee including the Article II subcommittee, Transportation committee including the subcommittee on Long-Term Infrastructure Planning, Health & Human Services Transition and Local and Consent Calendars committees.
Representative Linda Koop, who represents part of Dallas County, serves on the Appropriations committee including the Article VI, VII, VIII and Budget Transparency & Reform subcommittees, International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs, and Emerging Issues in Texas Law Enforcement committees
During the luncheon, each of the legislators was able to hear the Chamber’s priorities, visit with Chamber members to hear individual priorities and concerns, and speak briefly on their thoughts about the upcoming legislative session. Following the Chamber luncheon, the group met with leaders from the Alamo, Sheriff Susan Pamerleau, and Mayor Taylor. Special thanks to USAA for serving as presenting sponsor of this luncheon.
