If you’ve been to the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and thought, “this place is one-of-a-kind,” you’re not alone. Our San Antonio Missions have been selected for the “Vote Your Park” National Preservation Contest, a competition developed by Partners in Preservation (PIP), a community-based alliance between American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Now, we need your help to win the contest! Vote here today! The Missions made a short list of 20 national parks in the inaugural “Vote Your Park” campaign, of which $2 million in grants are up for grabs. Winners will be determined by popular vote, so we will need support from everyone in San Antonio. Each park can receive up to a $250,000 grant. That money would help preserve the largest concentration of Spanish colonial frescoes in the United States which reside at Mission Concepcion, one of the four missions that our National Historical Park houses. To spread awareness, Mission Concepcion will host a family-friendly open house on June 18. Special tours, children’s activities, food trucks and musical performances will be just a few of the attractions during the event. You can vote for your five favorite parks, including the San Antonio Missions at www.voteyourpark.org/misions after completing registration and keep casting votes once a day from now until July 5. The parks with the most votes will win the grant funds they desperately need to start their preservation projects.
