Continuing on the momentum following the launch of My Brother’s Keeper San Antonio (MBKSA), local leaders will be hosting a statewide summit, bringing together leaders from across the state.
My Brother's Keeper
Taking place at UTSA’s Downtown Campus, the Texas My Brother’s Keeper Summit will be held on July 28. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from national representatives of My Brother’s Keeper along with city and ISD representatives from the cities of Austin, Dallas, and Houston. Also included in the program will be breakout sessions focusing on the four pillars of MBKSA, which include: Ensuring all youth graduate from high school; ensuring all youth complete post-secondary education and/or training; ensuring all youth who are out of school are employed; and ensuring all youth are safe from violent crime.
My Brother's Keeper (MBK) is a community challenge started by President Obama encouraging city leaders, like San Antonio Mayor Ivy R. Taylor, to implement a coherent life-impact strategy. This national initiative is designed to help boys and men of color, including African American, Hispanic, Native American, and all non-white males reach their full potential regardless of life's circumstances. Locally, MBKSA is coordinating with other strategies that connect youth with opportunity and help young people build healthy relationships with themselves, their families and their community.
