In lieu of a regular monthly meeting, the Chamber’s Water Committee members strapped on some comfortable shoes and trekked down to Phase One of the San Pedro Creek improvement project. The one-mile walking tour was hosted by the San Antonio River Authority and was guided by Fred Arce of HDR, Inc., the consulting group hired to design the project. The project includes 4 miles of trails and 11 acres of landscaped area and will remove 30 acres and 38 adjacent structures from the 100-year flood plain. The project will transform the creek to reflect its place in our cultural history, improve its function in flood control, revitalize natural habitat and water quality, and catalyze economic development. While Committee members got a first look, the public is invited to attend a Groundbreaking Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, September 8th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at Fox Tech High School Football Field located at 701 North Flores Street.
