The Chamber was honored to host a roundtable discussion this morning with the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Veterans Employment and Training, Mr. Mike Michaud, who also serves as the head of the Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS). VETS serves as the focal point in the federal government for veterans' employment by preparing military service members for transition to civilian employment, providing veterans with services to assist them in getting good jobs, protecting veterans' employment rights, and promoting veterans' employment in the private sector.
A small group of Chamber partners, including USAA, University of Texas San Antonio, HOLTCAT, H-E-B, and Joint Base San Antonio 502d Force Support Group, attended to gain insight to the Department of Labor initiatives, as well as pass along San Antonio-specific employment challenges and strategies to engage and employ our Veteran population. Roxann Griffith, Regional Veterans Employment Coordinator, and Brian Schroepfer, State Director, joined in the discussion and highlighted Texas’ efforts in supporting transitioning service members. San Antonio continues to be at the leading edge of bringing a diverse military workforce together, and the Chamber enjoys making connections between government leaders and local businesses to meet the mark of hiring service members as they transition to the civilian workforce.
