On Thursday, November 17, the Chamber released our biennial Economic Impact Study of the Healthcare and Bioscience industry in San Antonio. The study indicates that the Healthcare and Bioscience industry continues to be one of San Antonio’s largest industries, with an economic impact of $37 billion. In addition, one in six workers in San Antonio are employed in the field, earning wages above the area's average. The industry continues to fuel the economy and has created more than 50,000 net new jobs over the past decade alone. Dr. Richard Butler and Dr. Mary Stefl, both of Trinity University, were the researchers of the report and presented their findings to a ballroom filled with attendees. Preston Gee, Vice President of Strategic Marketing at CHRISTUS Health in Dallas, was the event’s keynote speaker. "If people are more economically engaged, they will be better consumers of healthcare," Gee said. "If you are an optimist and you look at healthcare, you say, like Emerson wrote, that for healthcare 'these times, like all times, are the best of times,'" Gee said, closing the event with a positive outlook on San Antonio's healthcare industry.
