SAN ANTONIO – Several downtown companies are teaming up to host the ‘Biggest Ever Blood Drive in Downtown San Antonio’ in an effort to save hundreds of lives on Friday, Feb. 10. Dykema Cox Smith, HVHC Inc., CPS Energy and the USAA Building have joined forces with the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center for a downtown blood drive that aims to draw well over 100 donors. HVHC also has invited IBC, Argo and Liquid Web to participate. All drives are open to the public.
“Dykema Cox Smith is proud to be a part of this effort and open our doors to those willing to help save lives in San Antonio,” said Daniel Harkins, San Antonio managing member for Dykema Cox Smith. “You never know when you may need blood because of a short-term emergency or a long-term illness. The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is a community resource that we are proud to support.”
“HVHC, Visionworks and Davis Vision have actively participated in blood drives for many years. We see donating blood as a part of giving back to the communities we do business,” said Bob Cox, senior vice president for Human Resources. “Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person — the gift of life. A decision to donate blood can save one life or even several.”
“CPS Energy is proud to take part in ‘downtown’s biggest blood drive ever’ because our employees know that donating saves lives,” said Lori Johnson Leal, director of Corporate Responsibility. “Last year, our employees were recognized for donating more than 200 units of blood during the summer months, when blood supply levels are typically at the lowest. This year, our team members are eager to roll up their sleeves again and make a difference for our community.”
“It’s always great to partner with organizations and businesses that are committed to helping save lives,” said Dr. Samantha Gomez Ngamsuntikul, STBTC associate medical director. "Their support in spreading the word about the importance of blood donation to their employees and the community is invaluable to our mission to get blood to patients who need it."
